Four Pathways to Practice
For more than 25 years, Medical University of the Americas (MUA) has educated and trained passionate future medical doctors and international health leaders. Excitingly, MUA Doctors of Medicine go on to practice in the U.S., Canada and internationally!
In order to support aspiring physicians from a variety of educational backgrounds, we offer four pathways to an MD degree:
- 4-Year MD Program (10 semesters)
- Pre-Med Master’s Program + MD Program (12 semesters)
- 5-Year BSc/MD Program (13 semesters)
- 6-Year BSc/MD Program (16 semesters)
The MUA MD program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), which is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). Our pre-med programs are accredited by the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education. MUA is also one of the few international medical schools with approvals in the key U.S. states of New York, California and Florida.

USMLE Step 2 CK First-Time Pass Rate (2024) 2
1. 94% Three-Year US Residency Placement Rate is the percent of students attaining a US residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 who were active applicants in the NRMP match or attained a US residency outside the NRMP match.
2. First-time pass rate defined as total number of students passing the USMLE Step 2 CK on their first attempt divided by the total number of students taking USMLE Step 2 CK for the first time in calendar year 2024. In order to sit for the USMLE Step 2 CK exam, the student must successfully complete the Clinical Medicine curriculum and such other prerequisites as the school may establish at its discretion.

We offer multiple educational pathways to earning your Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. If you dream of becoming a practicing medical doctor, explore the following programs: 4-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD), Pre-Medical Master’s, 5-YearBSc/MD and 6-Year BSc/MD.
These pathways prioritize early hands-on learning, comprehensive education and a shared commitment to enriching the future of medicine in the United States, Canada and internationally.
1. MD Program
- 4 years (10 semesters)
- Basic Science on Nevis in the Caribbean (semesters 1-5)
- Clinical rotations (semesters 6-10) in the U.S. (core and electives) and Canada (select electives).
2. Pre-Medical Master's Program
- 8 months (2 semesters)
- On-campus or online
- Ideal for career changers with an undergraduate-level degree and some foundational science coursework.
3. BSc/MD 6-Year Program
- 2 years pre-medical (6 semesters) + 4 years MD (10 semesters)
- On-campus or online (pre-medical semesters)
- Ideal for students with secondary school credentials
4. Bsc/MD 5-Year Program
- 1 year pre-medical (3 semesters) + 4 years MD (10 semesters)
- On-campus or online (pre-medical semesters)
- Ideal for students with advanced levels and diploma credentials

Finance Your Medical Degree
We understand that your medical education is a significant investment, so upon successful completion of the pre-medical courses, and unconditional acceptance into the MD program, you can benefit from financial assistance.
In the U.S., MUA is authorized to participate in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford and Grad PLUS Loan programs, administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Canadian students can access government loans via their provincial student loan program, such as OSAP in Ontario. Additionally, private bank loans may be an option for eligible students.
